Chemical Engineering (Major in Renewable Energy Engineering)

Significance of Course

In recent years, the Indian industries have recognized the importance of utilizing renewable energy resources in pursuance of achieving ‘Net Zero’ target and have been actively seeking alternatives like biomass, solar, and wind energy for production and distribution. There is also an increasing need for a workforce, comprehensively educated and skilled in renewable energy engineering to provide innovative and sustainable solutions for energy generation and usage, which is a significant concern for the nation. Many national and global agencies have forecasted a significant increase in the share of renewable energy in total energy generation by 2050. Realizing, recognizing and valuing the potential skill requirements for the sector, the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering is introducing a B.Tech program in Chemical Engineering (Major in Renewable Energy).

The program offers a comprehensive education at par with international standard in core chemical engineering principles, such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, reaction engineering and process design etc. This is complemented by specialized courses of renewable energy engineering such as solar thermal energy, wind energy, nuclear energy and electrochemical devices etc, providing a well-rounded and in-depth knowledge essential for tackling complex engineering challenges of the renewable energy sectors.
