Dr Ananta Dutta is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT). He completed his PhD from IIT Kharagpur, where his doctoral research pioneered the development of a novel fabrication methodology for aluminium honeycomb structures using micro friction stir welding. He completed his M Tech from IIT Bhubaneswar with the Institute Silver Medal, where his master’s research was focused on the corrosion behaviour of high-entropy alloys.
Dr Dutta’s research interests lie at the intersection of advanced manufacturing, welding technologies, and intelligent process monitoring. His work integrates physics-based modeling, real-time sensing, numerical simulation, and AI-driven data analytics to develop intelligent manufacturing systems capable of real-time process monitoring, defect prediction, predictive maintenance, and autonomous quality control. Dr Dutta has been actively contributed to the development of deployable industrial solutions such as vibration-based health monitoring systems, AI-enabled weld defect detection software, and vehicle tyre traceability system. He has collaborated internationally with the University of Huddersfield, UK, on condition monitoring of industrial systems, and with Amplo Global Inc., USA for developing IIoT-enabled data integration platform. He has published more than 17 peer-reviewed articles in reputed journals and conferences and has filed two patents (one granted). His current research vision focuses on developing hybrid digital twins for manufacturing applications, and human-centric Industry 5.0 systems, with an emphasis on translating research into industrial impact and societal benefit.
