Freshers Orientation Programme – The Glittering Function Marks the Beginning of a New Academic Journey (2023-24 Batch)

The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) held its UG Orientation Ceremony on August 12, 2023, welcoming a diverse cohort of students, accompanied by their parents, faculty members, and staff. The event was hosted in the institute's splendid auditorium, signifying a momentous occasion that heralded the commencement of a promising academic journey for the incoming students.



The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) held its UG Orientation Ceremony on August 12, 2023, welcoming a diverse cohort of students, accompanied by their parents, faculty members, and staff. The event was hosted in the institute's splendid auditorium, signifying a momentous occasion that heralded the commencement of a promising academic journey for the incoming students.



The ceremony commenced with the arrival of dignitaries, students, faculties, staff, and guests, setting the stage for a day of inspiration and enlightenment. As a tribute to the pursuit of knowledge, the event began with the traditional Saraswati Vandana, invoking the blessings of the goddess of wisdom, arts, and learning.



To initiate the program, Dr Gargi Srivastava, the host of the event, delivered a heartfelt and enthusiastic welcome address to the new UG students. Dr K G Biswas, the Chairman of the Undergraduate Admissions, offered an inside look into the thorough admission procedure that resulted in the selection of this outstanding cohort of students. Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Debashis Panda elaborated on a list of dos and don'ts that students should follow to make the most of their stay on campus. He stressed the significance of embracing a Japanese philosophy of “continuous improvement” that he regarded as pivotal for students to achieve success.



Dean of Academic Affairs, Professor Umaprasana Ojha, provided new students with an overview of the structure of the undergraduate ordinance, emphasized the importance of following academic guidelines, explained the structure of the UG curriculum, and underscored the importance of ethical behavior. Additionally, he emphasized the distinctive project-based learning environment at RGIPT and the presence of a Design and Innovation Center, which fosters the application of knowledge to address real-world industrial problems and supports the incubation of entrepreneurial concepts.



The President of RGIPT's Board of Governors, Dr S Shamasundar, delivered an exceptionally inspiring welcome speech. He highlighted the wealth of opportunities awaiting these students, remarkably as the nation is poised to make substantial advancements globally. He delved into the diverse career possibilities spanning the energy sector, engineering, entrepreneurship, research and development, and other associated pathways. He also recounted stories of accomplished RGIPT alumni who have carved out distinctive career trajectories.





Professor A S K Sinha, Director RGIPT in his welcome address enlightened the new students about the salient aspects of UG course structure. He shared his vision about specialized branches in nation-building: including Petroleum Engineering with Geo Science, Petrochemicals and Polymers, Renewable Engineering, and Electric Engineering with a focus on Electric Vehicles. Professor Sinha emphasized the need to bridge boundaries between different branches and the significance of selecting a proper mix of elective courses in major and minor areas, enabling the development of expertise at the crossroads of diverse fields. This approach not only fosters the creation of valuable innovations but also ensures relevance in today's dynamic business environment. In conclusion, Professor Sinha shared an inspiring anecdote that highlighted the significance of teamwork, collaboration, collective leadership, and the resolve needed to surmount challenges – essential attributes for success in both academic pursuits and the practical world.



The program was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Gargi Srivastava.
