The Government of India, through the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG), has set up Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Jais, Uttar Pradesh on the lines of IITs under the Act of Parliament 54/2007 with an empowerment to award degrees and conduct front-end research. Institute has been granted status of “An Institution of National Importance” by the Parliament. The Institute is promoted by six leading Oil PSUs (ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL and HPCL) in India, in association with Oil Industrial Development Board (OIDB) and positioned as a "World Class" Institution. The Institute consistently features in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Ministry of Education, Government of India. Institute offers B. Tech, M. Tech, MBA and Ph D in several disciplines from main campus at Jais.
Over the years RGIPT has expanded its presence in multiple states. RGIPT opened a centre named “RGIPT Bengaluru Campus” in Karnataka. Bengaluru campus offers B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD in many disciplines.

| Eligibility |
- PhD with first class or equivalent (in terms of grades, etc) at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch with very good academic record in all preceding degrees.
- Candidates applying for an engineering discipline must preferably have a B. Tech degree in the relevant discipline.
- Age Limit: Applicants for Visiting Assistant Professor should be less than 32 years.

Initially for one year and extendable up to one more year. Performance is to be reviewed annually for the continuation of engagement. |
| Emoluments |
Consolidated emolument of Rs. 80,000/- to Rs. 1,50,000/- per month considering the experience and status of the person so appointed. |
| Duties & Responsibilities |
A Visiting Assistant Professor will be required to teach assigned courses, prepare new courses, develop laboratories, conduct research, and take seminars or participate in such other manner as may be deemed appropriate in teaching or research or industry-institute interaction work of the Institute. In addition, he/she may be assigned any administrative duties/responsibilities in the interest of the Institute as may be deemed appropriate by the Competent Authority. |
