Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) was established on May 18, 1947 in Jadavpur University, Kolkata by Dr. Hira Lal Roy and the place is recognised as the headquarters of IIChE since then. The aim of IIChE is to spread Chemical Engineering education and to foster the interest of the Chemical Engineering profession in general. At present, IIChE has around 29,000 members, 42 Regional Centres and more than 165 Student Chapters. The Institute is recognized by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization. IIChE annually organize Indian Chemical Engineering Congress (CHEMCON). IIChE has been organizing SCHEMCON (Students' CHEMCON) annually since 2005.
IIChE-Amethi Regional Centre (ARC) was established in December 2021 at the premises of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Jais which falls under Amethi District. Presently, the RGIPT has 18 faculties as its members and which is supposed to grow further. IIChE-ARC is committed to promoting the advancements in Chemical Engineering profession by organizing meetings, conferences, seminars and workshops. Refresher courses and counselling sessions for the students shall also be organised to inculcate scientific temper in them.
