Participation of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology In India Energy Week 2025
India Energy Week (IEW) is a premier global energy event organized by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, innovators, and professionals worldwide. It is a platform for discussing energy security, sustainability, emerging technologies, and the transition to a low-carbon future. The third edition of India Energy Week (IEW 2025) was held from February 11-14 at Yashobhoomi - India International Convention & Expo Centre (IICC), Dwarka, New Delhi. The event witnessed unprecedented engagement, with over 70,000 energy professionals from more than 50 countries, including over 20 ministers and 100 CEOs from Fortune 500 energy companies. The Honorable Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, inaugurated the conference. During India Energy Week 2025, Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted India's achievement of 100% clean cooking access through key initiatives. He emphasized the importance of strategic investments in hydrocarbons and renewables to ensure energy affordability and sustainability. He also advocated for smart capital reallocation toward wind, solar, biofuels, and gas to facilitate an equitable energy transition.
The Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, virtually addressed the esteemed gathering of energy professionals from the United States. He highlighted India's significant progress in the energy sector and its economic growth trajectory in his address. Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi emphasized key areas such as renewable energy expansion, biofuels, hydrocarbon exploration, and green energy initiatives. India has tripled its non-fossil fuel capacity and increased solar energy production by 32 times, positioning itself as the fifth-largest global economy. By 2030, India aims to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy capacity, net-zero carbon emissions for Indian Railways, and the production of 5 million metric tons of green hydrogen. Additionally, the country is actively promoting local manufacturing, solar PV production, and electric mobility.
Throughout the week, significant strides were made in strengthening global energy partnerships. Notably, India signed multiple strategic agreements and MoUs to enhance energy security, diversify supply sources, and foster innovation in the oil and gas sector. These collaborations are crucial steps toward a more resilient and sustainable energy future for the country.
The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Jais, actively participated in India Energy Week 2025. Under the leadership of Director Prof. Alok Kumar Singh, more than 10 faculty members and 30 students attended IEW 2025, exploring emerging trends and innovations in the energy sector. A team from the RGIPT-FIPI Student Chapter also took part in the conference. RGIPT showcased two significant research models at the event. The first model demonstrated the electrolysis of sour water effluent from oil refineries to produce hydrogen, sulfur, and ammonium sulfate at a low applied potential, potentially replacing the currently used Claus process. This innovative technology was developed in collaboration with Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL). The second model focused on Microwave-Assisted Mobilization of Viscous Crude Oil for enhanced oil recovery and flow assurance applications. This cutting-edge technology garnered significant attention from top officials in the upstream hydrocarbon industry, including leading companies' Chairmen and Managing Directors (CMDs), underscoring RGIPT's strong research capabilities and contributions to the energy sector.
