IIChE Membership

Benefits

The IIChE represents the chemical engineering profession in India. Many members of the Institute serve on various technical committees of the Government of India and of chemical and allied industries. Here are some of the benefits that a member of the Institute enjoys. 

  1. Since IIChE is the recognized forum of chemical engineers in India, membership of the Institute itself is considered as a professional accomplishment of a person.
  2. A members can join numerous seminars, symposia, workshops, training programmes, special lectures, industry visits and other professional activities. Participation in such programme is either free or may involve a subsidized fee.
  3. A member can join the four-day Annual Professional Meet called CHEMCON on a subsidized fee
  4. Through its large number of members, IIChE-ARC offers a unique place for networking with professionals and making academic/industrial relationships through the various professional meets organized by IIChE-ARC.
  5. Through IIChE’sconsultancy programme,an interested member may seek and get help from the Institute in his endeavour to offer consultancy services to potential industrial customers.
  6. SCHEMCON is an annually organized student’s seminar by the student chapter itself. The student members may join as member and can participate in a number of competitions like essay competition, quiz competition, best paper award, etc.
  7. IIChE is a member of the Engineering Council of India, which is responsible to award the ‘professional engineer’ status to a competent person. As such, the corporate members of IIChE will have the advantage of getting the ‘professional engineer’ status on fulfilment of specified criteria.
  8. A corporate member may be nominated to various government and non-government bodies in different areas, if found suitable.

2. Criteria for becoming Life Member (LM):

  • Every candidate for admission to the Institute as a Member or for transfer from Associate Member shall produce evidence satisfactory to the Council that he has the following qualifications:-
    1. Age: He/She shall be not less than twenty-five years of age.
    2. Occupation: He/She shall be engaged in the profession of Chemical Engineering.
    3. Other qualifications: He/She shall further have at least one of the following qualifications:-
  • He/She shall either be an Associate Member of the Institute or shall have fulfilled the conditions necessary for Associate Membership or shall have a diploma in Chemical Engineering/Chemical or Allied Process Technology or a Degree in Science.
  • He/She shall have experience in a position of responsibility, to the satisfaction of the Council, in an organization engaged in Chemical Manufacture or Process Engineering or Education or design or execution of important Chemical Engineering Work in University or Technological Institution recognized by the Council or carrying out research in the field of Chemical Engineering in University or Technological Institutions recognized by the Council. Minimum duration of experience shall be as given in Table 1 and the one time membership application fee is given in Table 2.

3. Criteria for becoming Life Associate Member (LAM):

  • Every candidate for admission to the Institute as Associate Member or for transfer from Student Member to Associate Member shall produce evidence satisfactory to the Council that he has the following qualifications:-
    1. Age: He/She shall be not less than twenty-one years of age.
    2. Qualification, Occupation and Experience:
  • He/She shall have passed bachelor’s degree examination in Chemical Engineering, or bachelor’s degree examination in Chemical or Allied Process Technology or a bachelor’s degree examination in Engineering other than Chemical Engineering or Chemical/Allied Process Technology from Universities/Institutions recognized by the Institute or such qualifying examinations the Institute may conduct.
    AND
    He/She shall be engaged at the time of his application for election, in Chemical manufacture or processing, or in the direction or construction or design or operation of Chemical Engineering Work. If the candidate is employed in teaching or research in Chemical Engineering in a College or Institution recognized by the Council, he may be regarded as employed in the direction of Chemical Engineering Work. Minimum duration of experience shall be as given in Table 1 and the one time membership application fee is given in Table 2.

4. Criteria for becoming Student Member:

  • Every candidate for admission to the Institute as a Student Member shall produce evidence satisfactory to the Council that he has the following qualifications:-
  • He/She is being trained as a Chemical Engineer as an undergraduate student in a constituent or affiliated college under a University/Technological Institution recognized by the Institute or has registered for the Associate Membership Examination conducted by the Institute. The one time membership application fee isRs.500/- + GST@18%.
