Search for President - Board of Governors

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology has been established through an Act of Parliament in the year 2007. RGIPT is an autonomous Institute of National Importance under the administrative control of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. It has been established in the lines of IITs with the objective to provide world-class education, training, and research to roll out efficient human resources to meet the growing requirements of the Petroleum and Energy sector. The Institute is co-promoted by six leading Oil Public Sector Units (ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL and HPCL) in association with the OIDB.

Institute has presently three centers. The main campus is located at Jais, Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, which offers programmes at Undergraduate, Post Graduate and Doctoral levels in the domain of (i) Petroleum Engineering and (ii) Chemical Engineering as well as (iii) Management Programme. The Assam Center of RGIPT has been launched in District Sivasagar, Assam and is offering programmes for training of skilled manpower at the diploma level in (i) Petroleum Engineering, (ii) Chemical Engineering and (iii) Piping Engineering. The third center is being set up in Bangalore, Karnataka with the key focus on Energy Research and Education.

The Search Committee invites applications for the post of President, Board of Governors of RGIPT from candidates who is an individual who has gained distinction in his professional life and preferably has academic, research or operational experience in the broad domain of petroleum technology including energy and hydrocarbon development. In addition, he should be an individual who has true understanding of the nature of professional education and commands public confidence. The position of President, Board of Governors is purely honorary and non-remunerative in nature.

Role and Responsibilities

  1. The President, Board of Governors shall be ex-officio Chairman/ President of RGIPT Board of Governors and Finance Committee and member of RGIPT General Council.
  2. He shall preside at the meetings of Board of Governors, Finance Committee and at the Convocations of the Institute.
  3. He shall convene the meetings of Board of Governors and Finance Committee as per provisions made in the Statute in consultation with Director.
  4. The President- BoG shall exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be assigned to him by RGIPT Act or the Statutes.

Tenure and Age for the Post

The President, Board of Governors shall hold office for a term of three years. The applicant should not be more than 67 years of age at the time of application.

Selection Process

The President, Board of Governors shall be appointed by the Competent Authority based on the recommendation made by the Search Committee, which will consider applications received in response to this advertisement, as well as nominations received from eminent persons.

Interested individuals may apply giving their detailed resume clearly bringing out research, teaching, industry-academia collaborations and administrative achievement, along-with a justification in support of their candidature in not more than 500 words along with a vision statement for the Institute and reference details of at least two distinguished individuals well acquainted with their work.
