B Tech in Chemical Engineering (Major: Renewable Energy Engineering)

Why B Tech @ Chemical Engineering (Major: Renewable Energy Engineering)

Why this Course?

One quarter of the global growth in energy demand will be attributed to India by 2040 as projected by the International Energy Authority. Over the past few years, Indian industry has realized the need of harnessing energy from renewable resources, and has steered towards finding substitutes such as biomass, solar, and wind for energy production and subsequent distribution. The nation has a target to substitute current use of coal, oil, and wood as energy sources, which account for 80% of the energy materials, to 60% renewable energy sources by 2030. To achieve Net Zero Emission, such stringent targets are essential. This also opens a huge opportunity for manpower skilled in the areas of this fast emerging sector.

Motivation

A growing need of human resources holistically trained in renewable energy engineering who can provide innovative solutions for sustainable generation and use of energy is a concern for the nation. A series of UG programs have been initiated in Energy Engineering across the academic institutions of reputes. RGIPT is committed to serve the nation by producing skilled human resource to meet the rising demand of the energy sector. Therefore we propose to introduce a BTech course in Chemical Engineering (Major: Renewable Energy Engineering) at the RGIPT Jais, with more thrust on renewable energy, so as to distinguish it from other BTech programs currently running at other institutions.

Objectives

The objective of Renewable Energy Engineering program is provide sound knowledge of all aspects of chemical engineering with extra focus on renewable engineering, encompassing its all facets such as: fundamentals and methods of energy conversion from renewable sources, equipment design and efficiency, conventional and non-conventional resources, technological development and challenges, sustainability, and energy & environment policies. Learning through experiments will be encouraged to gain first-hand experience and to motivate students for research, development, innovation and incubation.

Career Prospects

The programme will be able to provide engineers the tools to tackle various energy related challenges. The courses will be interdisciplinary. It will cover fundamentals and practical knowledge of all aspects of renewable energy resources. The courses has potential to meet the requirements of employment and entrepreneurship in energy sectors.
