आर.जी.आई.पी.टी. का तीसरा कैम्पस "इनर्जी इंस्टीट्यूट, बंगलौर" जो बंगलौर में प्रस्तावित है, इस संकल्पना पर आधारित है कि एक अति प्रतिष्ठित ऊर्जा संस्थान जिसमें विश्व स्तरीय अनुसंधान तथा शिक्षा की व्यवस्था हो, तथा जो अगले बीस वर्षों में विश्व के प्रमुख 20 संस्थानों में गिना जाए |
इस इनर्जी इंस्टीट्यूट का उद्देश्य आर्थिक उन्नति को ऊर्जा अनुसंधान एवं विकास, तकनीकी विकास, ऊर्जा नवोन्मेष व उद्यमिता के माध्यम से गति देना है | संस्थान छात्रों व ऊर्जा उद्योगों में कार्यरत कार्मिकों हेतु अत्याधुनिक औद्योगिक, तकनीकी तथा आधारभूत अनुसंधान व प्रशिक्षण आयोजित करेगा | संस्थान का यह भी उद्देश्य है कि एक ऊर्जा अनुभव केंद्र, ऊष्मायन प्रकोष्ठ/ई-प्रकोष्ठ, लाइसेंसिंग कार्यालय स्थापित किया जाए तथा ऊर्जा प्रौद्योगिकियों के अत्याधुनिक अनुभव के वाणिज्यीकरण को सरल किया जाए |
संस्थान की स्थापना के लिए- सेंटर ऑफ एक्सीलेंस, कर्नाटक सरकार ने आर.जी.आई.पी.टी. को कम्बालीपुरा जनपद की होसाकोट तहसील में 150 एकड़ भूमि आवंटित की है | कम्बालीपुरा भूमि पर इस सेंटर ऑफ एक्सीलेंस के निर्माण में कुछ वर्ष लगेंगे, इस बीच वर्ष 2018-19 से शिक्षा सत्र का संचालन विश्वेश्वरैया प्रौद्योगिकी विश्वविध्यालय के अस्थायी कैम्पस (वी टी यू) से प्रारम्भ किया गया है | एम.टेक. की तीन शाखाओं, नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा, शक्ति व ऊर्जा संयंत्र अभियांत्रिकी तथा ऊर्जा विज्ञान व प्रोद्योगिकी, के साथ प्रारम्भ करने हेतु पाठ्यक्रम डिज़ाइन किए जा चुके हैं |
चिक्काबल्लापुर जनपद के मुड्डेंहल्ली स्थान पर वीटीयू के पीजी केंद्र से इस सेंटर ऑफ एक्सीलेंस का अस्थायी कैम्पस लिया गया है | बेंगलुरु के निकट स्थित यह स्थान इंजीनियर स्टेट्समैन सर एम विश्वेश्वरैया का जन्म स्थान भी है |
